Bio

I’m Haydn Shaw, and for over 25 years, I’ve been helping organizations and individuals bridge the gaps that keep them from reaching their full potential. My work focuses on generational differences, leadership, change management, productivity, and trust—critical areas that impact how people work together and grow. I’m the author of Sticking Points: How to Get 4 Generations Working Together in the 12 Places They Come Apart, and I’ve developed some of FranklinCovey’s most successful workshops, including Leading Across Generations and Working Across Generations. My insights have earned recognition from TIME magazine, which called me a leading expert on workplace generational dynamics.

Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of speaking to more than 100,000 people and working with over 1,500 organizations across a wide range of industries—from Fortune 500 giants to nimble startups, nonprofits, and government agencies. As a senior consultant with FranklinCovey, I’ve been honored with the Chairman’s Award for my contributions. My mission is to provide practical tools and fresh perspectives that help individuals and teams work better together—across differences, through change, and toward shared goals.

Speaker Profile

When I take the stage, my goal is to make complex ideas not only understandable but also actionable and entertaining. I believe that real learning sticks when it’s delivered with humor and grounded in real-life application. My sessions are designed to engage audiences at every level, from senior leadership to frontline staff, and I tailor my keynotes and workshops to address the specific challenges organizations face today—whether it’s navigating generational clashes, adapting to constant change, or building cultures of trust and accountability.

Over the years, I’ve become known for helping teams have the conversations they tend to avoid. Whether it’s understanding why Millennials and Gen Z approach work differently, or unpacking the emotional responses that come with organizational change, I provide tools and frameworks that shift perspectives and lead to better outcomes. My speaking style blends deep research with storytelling and humor, ensuring people walk away inspired, equipped, and ready to act. I don’t just aim to inform—I aim to transform the way people work together.

Sticking Points: How to Get 5 Generations Working Together in the 12 Places They Come Apart – This is the first time in American history that we have five different generations working side-by-side in the workplace: the Traditionalists (born before 1945), the Baby Boomers (born 1946–1964), Gen X (born between 1965–1980), Millennials (born 1981–2001) and Gen Z (born 1996–present). Haydn Shaw, popular business speaker and generational expert, has identified 12 places where the 5 generations typically come apart in the workplace (and in life as well). These sticking points revolve around differing attitudes towards:

  • Managing one’s own time
  • Texting
  • Social media
  • Organizational structure
  • Clothing preferences

If we don’t learn to work together and stick together around these 12 sticking points, then we’ll be wasting a lot of time fighting each other instead of enjoying a friendly and productive team.
